4th December 2021, Nairobi: Kanisa Regulated Non-Withdrawable Deposit Taking Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (Kanisa SACCO) on 4th December commemorated the 40th Anniversary since it was formally registered on 10th August 1981. At an event held at the Desmond Tutu Conference Centre today to celebrate this milestone, it was noted that over the four decades the SACCO has grown to a current membership of over 3,500 drawn from organizations and individuals spanning across different sectors of business and society. Kanisa SACCO boasts of a share capital of 23.5 million, core capital of 37.4 million, member deposits of 401.9 million, total assets of 490 million and a loan portfolio of 348.4 million.

Speaking during the celebrations, the Chairperson of the SACCO, Anne Kioi notes that, Over the last four decades, Kanisa SACCO has grown in membership, financial strength, and its impact in supporting the achievement of the dreams of its members across different spheres of society. We have continued to build financially empowered individuals who support themselves, their families, and their community to achieve their goals.”

2021 is a special year when we celebrate our shared prosperity. It is a time for us to commemorate the forty years of our existence while building a sense of pride, ownership, and patronage among members to spur future growth,” said the Vice Chairperson of the SACCO, Nelson Opany.

The Chief Guest, Mrs. Lucy Kimani, the State Department of Cooperatives Dagoretti Sub-County Cooperative Officer congratulated Kanisa SACCO on this milestone saying that “having supervised Kanisa SACCO for many years, I am glad that it has withstood many challenges to emerge as a stable and reputable financial partner to its members within the country and in the diaspora. Two of the 18 founding members as well as representatives from the founding organization, AACC, were also present.

The SACCO recognized and awarded various members who have been consistent top savers in different categories including shares, deposits, personal savings, and child savings. Those who have been promptly repaying their loans were also appreciated as well as longest serving staff and directors and the founder members and organizations.

This 40-year growth journey has been made possible by the efforts, dedication, and sacrifice of all the subsequent leaders and staff who committed their time, skills and even resources to govern and grow the Society. The members too, have been steadfast in patronizing the SACCO by making it part of their success journey. This faith and trust is what fuels the Society’s progress. We celebrate all of them,” affirms Godfrey Mwangi, the Chief Executive Officer.

Kanisa SACCO moves into the next decade with huge optimism and ambition for even greater growth and prosperity of its members, and a focus on building the next generation of savers, the young people, buoyed by the SACCO Societies Non-Deposit Taking Business Regulations of 2020.
